How Kumbhakarna was killed by a second weapon which we hardly noticed in Ramayana – The Weapon of Ram

Every hero’s journey has that one impossible battle. For Rama, it was the clash with Kumbhakarna, Ravana’s giant brother. Larger than mountains, hungrier than armies, and armed with brute strength, Kumbhakarna was Lanka’s deadliest defender.

Kumbhakaran one of the main characters of Raavan’s army. Who said – Raavan is wrong on kidnapping Sita but he didn’t leave his side when the battle came.
Kumbhakarna also got the boon from Bramhadev and was almost invincible on any battlefield.

The War of Astras

When Kumbhakarna stormed the battlefield, even Rama’s divine arrows faltered at first. The fight turned into a sequence of celestial strikes:

  • Raudrastra (of Shiva) – unleashed, but the giant stood unmoved.
  • Vayavya Astra – Rama cut off Kumbhakarna’s arms, severing his grip.
  • Ardha Chandrastra – a crescent-shaped arrow that sliced his legs.
  • Aindrastra – Indra’s thunderbolt weapon, fired through Rama’s Kodanda bow.

But behind every astra was the echo of another weapon—the forgotten Nandaka sword.

Only one Vaanar in all Vaanars could match Kumbhakaran – Hanuman. It is said – even Hanuman could not better Kumbhakaran. Such was the might of that demon.

When Hanuman could not beat Kumbhakaran, this was the moment when Lord Ram entered the battle to fight Kumbha- the brother of Demon King – Raavan.

Nandaka – Vishnu’s Blade in Ram’s Hands

Nandaka – was given to lord ram by Vishwamitra before the battle of Tadaka.

Legends tell us Nandaka, the sword of Vishnu, was not just steel—it was the weapon of truth. Where astras tore flesh, Nandaka cut deeper—it symbolized the destruction of ignorance. In the battle with Kumbhakarna, every arrow Rama fired was seen as an extension of that sword. The final strike, the beheading of the demon, was remembered in lore as Nandaka’s triumph, for Rama was Vishnu’s avatar, and all his weapons were manifestations of that divine blade.

Why This Story Still Resonates

In the best mythological books and modern mythological fiction, the death of Kumbhakarna is more than gore. It is the collapse of arrogance before dharma. In works like Weapon of Ram by an Indian writer, this story stands as a reminder—every weapon of Rama, bow or sword, carried the same truth: dharma always cuts deeper.

For lovers of Ramayana-based fiction, Kumbhakarna’s fall is not just a battle—it is the roar of justice. You will find story of Nandaka and it’s real powers in the book – WEAPON OF RAM the Book.
