People often assume writing is only useful if you want to become an author.
For me, writing turned out to be one of the most useful entrepreneurial skills I accidentally developed.
By the way, I’m Sunil Chandra Saha, Founder of Blue Tea India and author of the WEAPON OF RAM The Book trilogy. Before any of that, I was just someone who liked writing. I trained to draw for almost five years. I wrote stories in college. From 2011 I was writing poems and short stories just because I liked doing it. None of it had a business plan behind it. It was just something I did.
Then Blue Tea India happened, and somehow all of it became useful.

Before Blue Tea existed, before Weapon of Ram became a trilogy, I simply enjoyed creating things. I was trained in drawing for almost five years in school days. During college I loved telling stories. From 2011 onwards I wrote poems and short stories with no intention of publishing them. It wasn’t a career plan. It was just something I kept coming back to.
Years later, that habit became the foundation for building a business.
Blue Tea started with almost no capital—around ₹50,000 put in by my co-founder and me. Like most bootstrapped founders, we couldn’t hire specialists for every problem. If something needed to be done, we learned to do it ourselves.
I designed our early packaging on PowerPoint.
Not Photoshop. Not Illustrator.
PowerPoint.

I wrote every word on the first hundred Amazon product listings—headlines, benefit points, product descriptions, and image copy. As the business expanded, I wrote content for more than twenty-two websites, our advertisements, blog articles, landing pages, and the captions for our early Instagram account, which we started in 2018. Before we had a creative team, I was usually the one standing behind the camera trying to make product videos look cinematic.
At the time, none of this felt like “being a writer.”
It simply felt like solving problems.

When you bootstrap a brand, there’s no budget for ten different specialists. You end up doing the job yourself, badly at first, and then not so badly. I designed our early packaging on PPT. Not Illustrator, not Photoshop – PowerPoint. I wrote every single one of the five Amazon images for our first 100 SKUs. Every headline, every line of copy, every “why this product” paragraph. When we launched 22+ websites, I wrote the content on all of them. I wrote our ad copy. I set up our Instagram in 2018 and wrote the first captions and articles myself. I stood behind the camera and shot what I wanted to call cinematic content for the brand, long before we had a video team.
I even tried to launch multiple brands – some failed. Some we killed intentionally.
None of this was because I wanted to write. It was because there was work to be done and I happened to have the skill lying around from years of doing it for no reason at all.
While building Blue Tea, I continued writing what would become Weapon of Ram—a Ramayan fantasy trilogy built as an expansive fictional world rather than a traditional retelling. Characters, politics, forgotten civilizations, mythology, and geopolitics slowly came together over several years.
When we finally began creating content around the books, it reached over 25 million views in six months. That happened because I’d already spent years learning how to communicate stories, experiment with formats, and understand audiences while building Blue Tea.
Today my biggest dream for Weapon of Ram isn’t simply to publish books.
It’s to see the world adapted into a great series—whether animation or live action—while staying true to the universe I’ve spent years building.
Looking back, I don’t think writing built Blue Tea.
It helped me become the kind of founder who could build Blue Tea.
And somewhere along the journey, it also helped me build an entirely different world called Weapon of Ram.
Perhaps that’s the biggest lesson.
Sometimes the skills you practice for no reason become the ones that matter the most.
Looking back, I don’t think writing built Blue Tea.
It helped me become the kind of founder who could build Blue Tea.
